I look at him silently and wonder,
What is this, a human-form blunder!

In a second, he’ll be off from his spot,
Put him in and the next moment, he’s out of his cot.

He wants to do things, he shouldn’t be doing,
He looks so innocent, blinking eyes and drooling.

He picks up the shovel, tries to clear the snow,
He ties me up, with ribbons, no escape, I know.

Why me? Sometimes I ask myself.
Why don’t they keep him high on a shelf?

Why his games seem life threatening to me?
Why when his eyes sparkle, I want to flee?

Oh what a relief when that toddler is off sleeping
And I can be at peace and practice deep breathing!

With love and fear,
The Pet of a Naughty Toddler.
